Our Founders

Mike Gillespie, (Brewing Operations), PARTNER & COFOUNDER

Mike is passionate that good beer, like good wine, brings people and communities together.  Helping to influence them to be the best version of themselves. Having brewed with his father in Cape Breton from a young age, Mike has an intimate appreciation for the craft of beer making.

He is an accomplished brewer and musician by night, and an IT Director by day; having made the transition from Business Accounting to Information Technology in 2007. Mike's latest project has been the development and support of the largest single site VoIP deployment in Canada to provide health safety for 1200 residents in a long-term-care facility in Halifax.

Being a connoisseur of great beer, Mike is the founder of the Dartmouth Brew Club and an avid chef.

Mike will be responsible for brewery/taproom operations, technical oversight, personnel and corporate management, and holding the beers to the highest standards that will be born as New Scotland Brewing Company.

Kevin Saccary, (Taproom/Retail Operations & Marketing) PARTNER & COFOUNDER

Kevin is an avid craft beer taster and enjoys the local and community driven aspect of the craft beer industry in Nova Scotia. As one of the founders of the New Scotland Clothing Company, Kevin and his brother Scott create quality, locally made goods to share with their customers.

The New Scotland Brewing Company is another example of that passion and is ingrained in every decision they make.

After 16 years in the in the IT field, Kevin decided to step aside from his career as an experienced IT Director to assume the presidents role in the New Scotland Group of Companies. Kevin is also a father of two beautiful daughters and an accomplished competitive curler winning: 2 Junior Nova Scotia titles with his brother Scott and a finalist in 5 other Nova Scotia provincials.

Off the ice, Kevin is involved at the club and Provincial level of curling, serving on the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Curling Tour and at the Dartmouth Curling Club for the past 7 years. Kevin was most recently elected as the President of the Board at the Dartmouth Curling Club, serving 2 terms from 2014 to 2016.

Kevin’s experience in leadership and team building is what drives his passion to create great quality products for people who appreciate tradition.

Scott Saccary, (Business Development), PARTNER & COFOUNDER

Scott is a proud Nova Scotian and is grateful to have the opportunity to build businesses here at home. Similar to his brother Kevin, Scott is also a competitive curler. He is a 4-time Nova Scotia champion, winning 2 NS Junior Curling titles (alongside Kevin), and most recently, winning the 2016, 2017 & 2018 NS Men’s titles which allowed Scott to compete at the Canadian Curling Brier Championships.

While wearing the Nova Scotia flag on his back has been something Scott has worked very hard to accomplish throughout his curling career; he has also gained some worldly experience as well. While traveling through unique areas in the world such as Asia, New Zealand, Australia, Europe and South Africa has allowed Scott the opportunity to experience different parts of the world, he will always be proud to call Dartmouth, Nova Scotia his home.

After 11 years as a Senior Construction Estimator at Lindsay Construction, Scott has also stepped away to focus his attentions on growing the New Scotland companies with Kevin.

As VP of Business Development, Scott will be responsible for creating and building relationships that are necessary for growth in the community. Scott is excited about expanding New Scotland into the craft beer community and feels it is a perfect avenue for building a strong home grown brand that utilizes locally sourced ingredients to share with our fellow New Scot’s.
